In Spanish, Mariposa Linda means the beautiful butterfly. This pen was a commissioned piece that I liked so much that I decided to add it to my regular collection. I began by drawing the meticulous detail of the butterflies and cherry blossoms by hand. Then using cutting edge technology, the scrimshaw work was completed using naturally shed elk antler as the background. After engraving, I hand-painted the image with very subtle yellows and pinks for added dimension. I have chosen the finest black titanium appointments for an exceptional writing experience. The cap is held in place by a rare earth magnet and posts on the back side of the pen while the pen is in use. It comes with a medium point stainless steel nib, but you can upgrade to a solid 18k gold nib if you prefer. You will receive a piston type converter for using bottled ink as well as an international sized ink cartridge should you prefer the ease of disposable cartridges. The artwork is designed seemlessly around the circumference, making it very easy to pass the time by rotating the pen and getting lost in the never ending seascape. A majestic bull elk stands proudly before the spacious landscape of mountains and pines. The inspiration for this pen goes back to my honeymoon in Rocky Mountain National Park where my wife and I witnessed this majestic animal gazing across a deep valley towards Long's Peak. The image is is my original artwork, hand-drawn, using a digital pencil that scribes directly into special drawing software. The image is then scrimshawed into natrually shed elk antler in a seemless fashion around the entire width of the barrel and cap. I have limited this edition to only 150 pieces. Each piece is discretely engraved with the edition number along with my initials, and comes with a certificate of authenticity, hand-signed and embossed with my personal seal. I have framed the piece with the finest rhodium appointments which have black titanium accents. This fountain pen was the prototype for a pen commissioned by a federal judge. I liked it so much that I decided to share it with everyone. It is hand made from macassar ebony and the violet is hand painted with silver leaf. The pollen cone is inlayed with mother of pearl. The flower is based on a period piece of jewelry which has been in our family for a couple of generations. I feel this pen embodies understated elegance. THUYA BURL is the pinicle of desire and luxury. coming from Morocco, this wood is a rich caramel color with swirling grain and tiny knots known as eyes. This is by far the most difficult of woods to work as it is very oily and prone to shatter on the lathe. I have chosen to use rhodium hardware with black titanium accents to frame this unique wood. Sapele is a rare form of African Mahogany that has magnificent swirling grain. It is a rich redish brown with golden streaks that seem to move when the pen is rotated in the light. Rarely is the grain pattern tight enough to be visible in something as small as a pen, but I have been blessed to find this rare treasure, and I am offering it to you. The appointments have a brilliant rhodium finish with black titanium accents. The nib has a medium point, is German made, and has an irridium tip for the finest writing experience.

Black ash burl is a North American rarity. It primarily grows in the swamps of the Northern United States and must be harvested when the marsh is deeply frozen. I am very pleased to offer a very limited number of pens from this special find. I have enough for only 20. I am choosing to use rhodium hardware with black titanium accents, and your pen will come with a medium German made nib. Koa is luxurious tropical wood native to Hawaii marked by stripes of golden brown that seem to shimmer in bright sunlight. Koa and its unique grain patterns have emerged as symbol for the islands and is a favorite medium for local artisans. For main-land wood workers, finding good qulaity pieces is a rare treat. I have only enough of this to make 5 pens with the distinctive figure you see in this photograph. Fiat justitia, ruat caelum. Though the heavens fall, may justice prevail. Not long ago, a federal judge commissioned a pen with this Latin phrase engraved to serve as a reminder of the gravity of his work. I was moved to create something that embodies this idea pictorially. The photo you are looking at is a collage showing the entire image. Blind justice has stood for millennia, holding the balance as a symbol of equality for all. And though she holds a sword, I am sure she would agree the pen is much mightier. I used a live model to create the drawings that ultimately became Lady Justice. She is engraved into American holly, and is framed with rhodium (platinum) and black titanium accents. The staff of Asclepius has been the symbol of physicians dating back to ancient mythology; however, due to a misunderstanding, when the Army Medical Corp added this symbol to their uniform in 1902, the caduceus became the emblem of modern medicine.
